Classes for the month of May
–>Specialty - “Charleston” at 6:30PM
This class is a mini workshop series in Charleston. This class is open for all levels. We will be teaching a routine that Kevin choreographed, along with moves that will make your solo dancing something nice to look at. There will be some spiffy partner moves as well.
–>Lindy Hop at 7:30PM
This is a lindyhop class. It is great for beginners who want to branch out into the 8-count style of swing dancing, and those who would like a refresher course on lindyhop footwork. No previous experience required, but Swing ‘Fun’damentals class recommended.
–>Swing ‘Fun’damentals at 8:30PM
This is a basic swing class. It is great for beginners who have never danced before. We will be doing six-count swing in this class. If you have two left feet, we’ll show you where to get a right foot. No previous experience required.’FUN’damentals students get into the dance after class at no additional charge.
Admission
I have to announce that the prices for the dance will be going up, due to a failing economy and inflation. This will occur in May, and it will be $7 for adults & $6 for students. If you get to the dance before 9:30pm, then the price will still be $5 for adults & $4 for students.
Blues on the 30th
This Wednesday, the Abbey Ballroom will be hosting another blues event! The theme Hot Spring Nights, so look fresh, break out the dusty minis, and maybe throw on a little tanning lotion. The night will be filled with the sad blues that is DJ’d by some of the most premiere blues DJs of Seattle. Admission in $5 for adults and $4 for students. The dance will be going from 9pm-Midnight.
There are blues classes available. 6:30 is Intermediate Blues, 7:30 is Beginning Blues, and 8:40 is the free Blues Drop-In.

The first Wednesday in May will bring a new lesson schedule to the Abbey.
8:30pm: $12 Swing
This class is a beginning swing class that covers all the basics that a brand new/beginning dancer needs to know. 6-count, East Coast, Jig Walks, and other variations will be covered.
7:30pm: $12 Lindy Hop
This is a new class. It will be the connecting class for the 8:30 and 6:30 classes. This class will be added, so that dancers who have taken the beginning class will be able to progress, and there won’t be such a wide level gap in between the current 6:30 and 7:30 classes. Intermediate swing/Lindy Hop material will be taught in this class.
6:30pm: $12 Advanced/Specialty Classes
This class is the same as the current 6:30 class. The class material varies monthly.

I’ve officially solved the problem of being unable to keep track of who is coming to what class, and when! I have designed punch cards that each person who signs up for a month’s worth of classes will receive. If you don’t show up for class, that’s fine, because I won’t have punched your card. That means you’ll have an extra punch for next week instead of losing your money. Kevin and I still encourage attending all four weeks, but if it isn’t possible, then it isn’t a problem! If you show up to class without your punch card, then you have to pay for class any way, so keep it in your wallet! I’ll have these cards all ready in a couple of weeks.

The Paypal feature officially works!
The classes are $38 for a month if you sign up in advance through the Paypal feature. If you want to pay for the classes with cash or a check and you still want the $38 price, you will need to sign up 1-2 weeks in advance in person at the Abbey. Otherwise, it will be $43 dollars on the 1st day of class for the whole month. If you think you will miss a week or two, I would advise taking the classes drop-in style. It is ridiculously difficult to keep track of people who typically pay for a month and don’t come back until a year later. New sessions always begin at the beginning of the month. Right now, the $65 special is not available on the Paypal page, but it will be shortly. For now, you may pay for that special in person 1-2 weeks in advance.
Thank you.
